When Teachers Pack Heat

Ever since the Harrold Independent School District (in Texas, of course) trumpeted its decision to allow its teachers to carry guns into the classroom, I’ve been working on a big migraine.  Here’s my take on a beginning-of-the-school-year communique from that district’s superintendent:  http://www.texasobserver.org/article.php?aid=2854

I know.  Me, too.  I still have nightmares thinking that my 10th-grade biology teacher could have carried a gun.  He was already totally nuts (kept talking about World War II and the “Japs”); just imagine what a little firepower would have empowered him to do.
