Every major newspaper carried large features, and the TV stations also marked the occasion. I do so agree with you - Americans cannot afford to forget JFK's assassination, especially now, when it seems the country may be on the brink of achieving a new "Camelot." There are a lot of disaffected nutters out there - all nicely riled up by Missus Palin, I might add ...
